Harold B. Kelly, long-time Director of the Burroughs Learning Center at Bethel College, died Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at his home following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Kelly was born December 9, 1938 in Utah where he graduated from high school and attended two years of college prior to entering the Air Force in 1960.  He earned several commendations and awards during his four-year enlistment, which included serving in Germany.

After leaving the Air Force, he completed his bachelor's degree and graduated from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.  He earned his master's degree in Library Science from East Texas State and embarked on a career which took him to several parts of the country.

He worked and taught at Bemidji State College in Minnesota, the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks, Jamestown College in Jamestown, North Dakota, and the University of South Carolina at Spartanburg.

He came to Bethel in 1986 as Director of the library and was largely instrumental in upgrading the library in order to meet changing demands in computer and video technology.

Mr. Kelly is survived by his wife of 35 years, Linda Mattson Kelly; and his son, Sean Benjamin Kelly.

The family requests that any memorials be made to the Burroughs Learning Center at Bethel College.
