Gale's Literary Index is a master index to the major literature series published by The Gale Group. It combines and cross references more than 130,000 author names and more than 140,000 titles into one source.

Literary Resources on the Net Rated as one of the top 5% of all net sites, this is a very intelligently organized, detailed list of links to original texts and related literary material.
Victorian Web Contains text files on every aspect of Victorian life: art and architecture, science and technology, philosophy, political issues, labor, poverty, etc. And, of course, literature.

The Internet Shakespeare Editions The aim of the Internet Shakespeare Editions is to make scholarly, fully annotated texts of Shakespeare's plays available in a form native to the medium of the Internet. It will contain a growing database of performance records, both from collections and archives of historical collections, and from current productions of participating companies, festivals, and Theater departments, as well as other aspects of scholarship in the field. British Literature Cover topics by author (summary biographies), country, era/time (period literature overviews plus some articles), medium (poetry, drama, short story, novel, non-fiction, or visual arts), and genre/group (mystery/detective, economics, law, Lake Poets, Fabian Society, etc.). It includes a nice set of links to related web pages. The texts are in both SGML suitable for scholars and HTML for convenience. Electronic Literature Foundation(ELF) Produces advanced electronic texts to be used by students, scholars, and admirers of literature. There are 42 texts at present with more to come. A nicely put together site which includes the Divine Comedy, Jane Austen' s novels, and Jules Verne's novels among many more. Emory Women Writers Resource Project Collection of edited and unedited texts by women writing in English from the seventeenth through the nineteenth century. This site offers students a chance to edit texts themselves. English-Server's Poetry Anthology Online Middle English Collection Includes texts famous and obscure, including Morte d'Arthur, Everyman, Sir Gawain, some Chaucer, miscellaneous poems and letters. Nanette Miller's Poetry Page Collection of links to full-text poetry. Net Library A provider of eBooks. You will need to create an account with them, but it is free and quite painless. They have many texts to choose from, chatrooms to discuss books and a number of other services. - Ayn Rand Creator of many wonderful non-fiction philosophy books. However, her primary literary achievement was writing two romantic fiction masterpieces: The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged. Read them, there will be a test.
- Victor Hugo French poet, novelist, and playwright, whose voluminous works provided the single greatest impetus to the romantic movement. Works include Les Miserables, Notre-Dame de Paris, Ninety-Three, Hans Of Iceland, By Order Of The King.
- Arthur C. Clarke Creator of many Sci-Fi classics The Space Odyssey Series: 2001, 2010, 2061, 3001, the Rama Series and others. Also, get this, in 1945 he published the technical paper Extra-terrestrial Relays laying down the principles of the satellite communication with satellites in geostationary orbits - a speculation realized 25 years later. A masterful artist and a genius to boot.
- William Sydney Porter (O. Henry) Master of the Madcap Story with a Benevolent Surprise/Twist Ending. Both Mark Twain and James Thurber had this skill but I prefer Porter because his work is ultimately more joyful, heroic, romantic and just plain Madcap Whirligig Fun.
- Douglas Adams Quasi-legendary creator of The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy among other strange literary and other assorted multimedia objects and devices.
